MISS USA AND OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

n 2013, more than 22,000 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer with no reliable early detection test for the disease. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, a recognized time for people to learn more about the risks, symptoms and need for increased attention on the issue. Miss USA Erin Brady will take on teal next month to raise awareness about important needs for ovarian cancer such as research funding, improved health care practices and life-saving protocols.

Starting Sunday, September 1, Brady will Turn The Towns Teal in South Windsor, Connecticut by pinning teal ribbons throughout the community in an effort to prompt other cities to do the same and draw attention to the cause. The non-profit national awareness campaign has already succeeded in encouraging 36 cities in the country to turn their town teal. Brady will also speak at the opening ceremony.

The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA) has invited Miss USA to Capitol Hill on September 17th to join doctors, activists and experts who will discuss legislation that improves quality of life and access to care for ovarian cancer patients. Brady will speak in front of federal policy makers as a voice for women with ovarian cancer and fight for policies that help support them and their families.

Various brands will also raise awareness throughout the month and Brady plans to be a model for one of them.
